The American San Juan Islands are on the US - Canadian border in the northwestern area of Washington State.

current gallery available consists of a series of photoillustrations by Ari Cowan which are part of his continuing exploration of the American Pacific Northwest. The photographs in this series focus on the American San Juan Islands.

These photoillustrations were taken, rendered, and edited digitally. In some cases, composites were created to achieve the intended specific visual statement.

Ari has been involved in photography for over 30 years. He worked as a photoillustrator for the University of Washington as well as for a number of regional and national magazines. He was one of five photographers featured in the Bell System photographic display on the environment at the 1974 World's Fair.
