Bullying: Legislature Must Act Eastside Journal, Tuesday, 08 May 2001 A letter written in response to news
that a bill aimed at reducing bullying and harassment in schools
had been stopped in the Washington State Legislature after Christian
conservatives complained that it amounted to a gay rights measure.
Note: Shortly after this piece appeared, the
Washington State legislature passed legislation to protect children
from bullying.

Extradition from Canada of Two to Face the Death
Penalty Eastside Journal, Wednesday, 07 March 2001 There has been a great deal of controversy
about the Canadian Supreme Court's decision not to extradite two
murder suspects to the United States unless US prosecutors will
agree to not seek the death penalty. This was written in response
to a number of pieces blasting the Court and the Canadian people.
Note: Two days after this piece appeared,
King County (Washington) Prosecutor Norm Maleng agreed not to seek
the death penalty for the suspects.
