We Need Your Help NOW to Make Seattle a "Compassionate City"

Goal = 1,000 names 107 to go (as of 2:30 PM Pacific Time)
"All that is necessary for evil to succeed
is that good men do nothing."
— Edmund Burke
1729 – 1797
Anglo-Irish statesman, author, and philosopher

Help us get those last 107 names. If you haven't done so already, please consider joining the Ten Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities. I'd love to see you become a part of this important and rewarding initiative.

Badges
If we get the support of at least 1,000 people by March 15, 2010, then the City of Seattle will affirm the Charter for Compassion — a first step in connecting people for compassionate action. Right now, we need 107 more signatures in the next few days to reach that goal. Please take just a moment to add your name. And please invite others to do the same.

What It Does

A Compassionate City recognizes compassion as an ethical imperative in its policies affecting human services. A Compassionate City deepens the quality and the extent to which its citizens embrace compassionate action in caring for its own neighbors. By Seattle declaring itself a Compassionate City," the intent is set and we can begin to translate that intent into concrete action to touch the lives of those in need in Seattle.

This is an important first step bring the world’s cities together over the next ten years to form a network of “Compassionate Cities.” And you can help make it happen.

Here's What You Can Do Now

We need your help to reach our goal of 1,000 signators. My understanding is that you don't have to be from Seattle to sign on. Here's what you can do:

  1. Add you name. It's fast and easy. Just click on the "Join This Campaign" button above and follow the simple instructions.
  2. Invite at least 5 friends to do the same. Pass on this E-Newsletter, send your own message, or call. Ask your friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances to be a part of this pioneering effort.
  3. Follow up with a phone call. Nothing motivates people like a personal connection. Give those you contact a quick call, get their commitment to sign on, and thank them — they're making a strong contribution to the lives of others.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Check with the Compassionate Action Network after next Monday (the 15th and the deadline for getting our 1,000 names) to see how we did.

Coming Soon

A new video introducing the Violence Integrative Prevention and Restoration is in post-production. The End of Violence explains the basics of the PAR Model clearly and understandably.. As soon as it's posted, we'll let you know via the E-News.
